THE GIFT OF A SON
Darlene Pharris

The stillness is broken by his cries
Mother’s joy brought tears to her eyes
She’d received the gift of a son
A precious life had just begun.

Suddenly, a man stands so tall and proud
Mother’s joy rises to the clouds
Strong and kind, he is the gift of life
Full of love and joy even in the midst of strife.

As he fills the place designed for him only
He brings to God such glory
As he, so eagerly, races to manhood
No fear of things not understood.

The days of worms and frogs have past
Mother knew they wouldn’t last.
Thank you God for the gift of a son
Thank you for giving me this special one

Thank you, Son, for the joy
You brought in the form of a boy
You bring such pride to my heart
And you have from the very start.
