THEY DANCED
HE DROVE DOWN THE STREET ~ IN AN OLD
BATTERED FORD / SHE WAS OUTSIDE ~ SITTING ON THE PORCH
HE WAS YOUNG ~ AND SO WAS SHE / HE WAS AFRAID EVEN TO STOP AND SPEAK.
EACH DAY FOR AT LEAST A MONTH ~ HE DROVE REAL SLOW BY THAT FRONT PORCH.
SHE WAS SO CUTE ~ WITH THAT CURLY RED HAIR
SHE THOUGHT HE WAS DASHING ~ LIKE A CUTE BLACK HAIRED BEAR.
ONE THE DAY HE GOT UP THE COURAGE TO STOP ~
SHE HELD HER BREATH AND THEN TOOK A BIG HOP
OFF THAT FRONT PORCH ~ SHE RAN TO THE CAR
HE OPENED THE DOOR ~ AND TOGETHER THEY
HEADED FOR THE STARS.
FIFTY~FIVE YEARS HAVE COME AND GONE
AND THE MEMORIES STILL LINGER ON
OF HOW THEY DANCED ALL NIGHT LONG.
THRU-OUT THE YEARS ~ THEY SHARED
LAUGHTER AND TEARS / YET THEY STILL
HAD THAT COURAGE AND LOVE THEY FOUND
AS THEY DANCED AND DANCED THRU ALL THE ROUNDS.
THAT LOVE STILL LIVES ON AND WILL FOREVER
AND BEYOND.
